Geometry is a universal language.
So is play.
Like Archimedes, architect Richard Dattner was inspired by the cuboctahedron. In 1969, the young architect designed the first fibreglass PlayCubes, but found they were difficult and expensive to manufacture. We are delighted to partner with Richard to re-introduce PlayCubes to today’s children, and allow them to discover play on their own terms and in their own way.
PlayCubes offer rich physical, social and cognitive play value. Distinctive geometric shapes invite exploration and climbing play that’s accessible, yet with graduated levels of challenge. Varying planes and handholds encourage climbing and spatial experimentation, while negative spaces invite entry, for “in, on and around” play value.
With their sculpture-like form, PlayCubes encourage children of all ages to invent new ways to play and interact as they climb on, around, and through.
PlayCubes are available in two material options: roto-moulded plastic or metal. Several pre-configured designs have been created for each material option, so you're sure to find the perfect fit for your playground.

Materials
Plastic PlayCubes
Plastic PlayCubes slide, and slide entry sides are made of rotomolded plastic. The slide deck, canopy and entry side inserts are made of perforated steel covered in Eco-Armor®. Base plates inside the cubes are made of cast aluminium.
Metal PlayCubes
Metal PlayCubes are made of perforated steel covered in Eco-Armor®. Cube corners and base plates inside the cubes are made of cast aluminium.
Rotomolded Plastic
All Playworld rotomolded plastic components are shatter-proof polyethylene (PE) plastic made of compounded pigmented resins, which provides twice as much impact resistance as dry-blended resins. Our plastics are also UV resistant, enabling colors to remain bright over time.
Eco-Armor®
Eco-Armor® is our durable, PVC-free, thermoplastic Polyethylene (PE) coating with a uniquely structured surface. Eco-Armor is unaffected by extreme changes in temperature, stays clean as it is less porous than PVC and has a superior slip-resistant finish due to the PE coating process which eliminates drips and runs.
Paint
The exclusive architectural-grade, super durable polyester powder coating provides enhanced, light-stable pigments for superior UV stability and fade resistance.
Soft Corner Castings
With metal often comes concerns about safety, but Metal PlayCubes feature soft corner castings and concealed bolts that make them play-safe.
Colours
While colour is a small detail in the larger scope of playground planning, it shouldn’t be an afterthought. Colours can tell a story and evoke a feeling. They guide the eye and inspire play. From warm, sunset shades that invigorate to cool, tropical tones that calm, there’s a perfect combination for every play space.
Choosing a colour palette can be fun, but it’s also a lot of work. Not sure where to start? Try assigning certain colours to a material or type of activity. When in doubt, take inspiration from your environment, whether it’s your school colours or the native flora and fauna. Don’t be shy—colour yourself confident.
